"Democrats and Unaffiliateds More Likely To Be Unemployed Than Republicans"

This is interesting:

Data from Rasmussen Reports national telephone surveys shows that 15.0% of Democrats in the workforce are currently unemployed and looking for a job. Among adults not affiliated with either major party, that number is 15.6% while just 9.9% of Republicans are in the same situation.

Republicans are at the national average for adults+teens. Democrats are at the average for teens.

That could be correlated to where unemployment is highest - urban areas and the usual Blue states, like Michigan, California, etc.

A cross-tab evaluation might suss out that correlation.

I'm sure demographics play a role, as well. With the young and minorities ranking among the worst of the unemployed, and also being supermajority democrat voters, that overlap has to be worth something.

lawhawk is correct. Overall, blue states are suffering higher unemployment, which illustrates the effect of Democratic policies.

Also, they know who their target audience is: people who think life is unfair to them when they do not get the same reqards that hard working Americans earn.

I had a fun discussion along this line with my kids this morning. We were joking, and I said I had to spank one of them for some imaginary crime, so I would spank all of them because that would be fair.

My daughter's face grew cloudy as she puzzled this out. "But daddy, only Peter did something wrong. It is not fair to punish us when we did not do anything." So then I asked her if her brothers should get a special treat if she makes an A on her spelling because she studied and they get Cs because they decided to play video games instead of studying.

Again the contempletative face. "No, I studied and made the good grade. Only I should get the treat." "But that is not fair" I joked.

"Daddy, I don't think that word means what you think it means" she quoted. Thankfully, my seven year old can distinguish between fair and even.

Now if only the voters can learn this.

Trey,

You tyrant! Don't you know that your kids will naturally reach a socialist harmony on their own...that is if they didn't have your patriarchal bourgeois oppression.

One day the children proletariat of the world will unite and throw off their bourgeois parents who exploit them! The proletariat will bring universal harmony and utopia.

"You tyrant!"

Guilty as charged. I am a benevolent dictator, but still a dictator toward my children.

I am still quite tickled that the kids get it though! Fair does not mean equal results but equal opportunity.

I believe that they called it the Cultural Revolution when that happened in China.

Fits the stats of men v. women.

These are primarily working class jobs, and "trickle down" who are out. The hired.

The Republicans -- the car dealer's, salesmen, their suppliers etc. -- in many places got bailed out of the mess. Plus, not too many family businesses lay off employees and draw unemployment. These folks tend to lean Republican too.

Kind of like despite the poverty rates during the Great Depression, there was always work on the farms (you own land) and people were probably hungrier in the cities. (Republicans being the countryfolk; more Democrats in the cities.)

Do you do a hard OTK spanking of your boys and girls when they're naughty, trey?

For giggles, or you've found that's the best method that works for your brood?

If all registered voters in the two main parties were out of work, perhaps finally we could change the culture in DC.

The sooner the better.

@Mary,

The Depression started nearly a decade earlier for farmers, largely because they over invested during WWI thinking that the strong grain markets in Europe (due to crop destruction there) would last forever.

My Dad was an Iowa farm boy and moved to Chicago in 1928, opened his own radio shop, and wound up employing his own father.

Also, didn't some 300+ dealerships close after the government took over GM and Chrysler?

Thanks Les. My point was, those that stayed generally ate, while many in the cities went hungry. You're right -- plenty of dealerships closed or were consolidated, but I think enough stimulus funds plus loyalties kept many salesmen still working, enough to explain the disparity in the study perhaps.

have a cousin with a defect she had from birth. She was unable to get health coverage, though the problem was not life threatening but needed work done from time to time. When she complained to her would-be health insurance company, they said: don't get upset. Anyone with that or many other problems can not get insurance. Now isn't that fair?

fred asked: "Anyone with that or many other problems can not get insurance. Now isn't that fair?"

Yes, but it is not right and should be addressed. It is fair in that ANYONE with that problem can't get insurance. It is not applied to her in a discriminatory fashion, it is common to all people.

Now, there is a HUGE difference between not being able to get insurance and not being able to get health care. Is she unable to get treatment through clinics, free drug programs, or physicians who donate free service? Is she getting assistance from churches?

These are important questions fred. Her access to insurance is not as important as her access to help.

Having said all that, and standing by it, she should also have access to a health savings account, but the democrats are against those and have blocked them. With a HSA she could get insurance, but the democrats would rather use her as an excuse to grow government than help her.

Sad really.

And I will pray for your cousin. God is the best physician.

when my kids gripe about something being fair or not... i tell them there is no such thing.

i provide for them whether they "deserve" it or not.

they are wonderful little philosophers. hopefully nobody breaks them of that.

Trey - your kids are proof enough that until the lefties get a hold of them and brainwash them into multi-culti PC hogwash, a kid's natural common sense leads to conservatism and family values.

Alex, do you think so? I think that parents who use consequences to teach personal responsibility lead kids that way, but I also think that parents who use consequences to get the kids out of their hair and live off the government teach other stuff.

I certainly DO agree about the multi-PC hogwash, but I think we are naturally depraved and have to have it more or less beaten out of us!

And it is funny, the multi-cultural crowd is all about multi-cultures that are not white American or Christian. Not that white people are the cat's meow mind you.
